"My barriers are not my limits; they are my stepping stones to greatness." It all started with this quote and became the theme of Lucy.
Back in July of 2011 my sister Alicia and I thought of the concept for Lucy. Growing up with our little brother Luke, who is autistic, we were deeply influenced by him and the way we look at his condition. Lucy takes you inside the world of autism. Although there is a whimsical feel to the film, there is a meaning behind our madness from everything to the colors, the worlds Lucy travels to, the time period, the door, and decision to place the film in France.
After all the pre-production, all nighters building of the set, filming until 4am and having to flood our set twice, and a post marathon of 72 hours to get the film finished in time for the Orange County Film Fest, Lucy was done and was ready to take on the world.
I am now 19 and have made it into multiple large festivals and won quite a few including first prize at My Hero International Film Festival, Picture This...Film Festival, and second place plus the audience choice at the LDS Film Festival. Lucy was honored with Best Short Film, Best Producer, Best Director, and Filmmaker of the Year at OCFF as well as 14 other awards from various student film festivals including Achievement in Youth Filmmaking at the Newport Beach Film Festival. Lucy is also currently an Official Selection at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and is finding an audience all around the world as I was asked personally to submit Lucy to the BOSIFEST in Serbia and the 10th European Film Festival in Koszalin, Poland.
Lucy also has an article coming out in the next issue of Autism Speaks and has been sold to two companies that put together compilation DVDs of extraordinary short films that will be sold in book stores starting in July and September.
From the very beginning we dreamed of getting a film into the Festival de Cannes and when it came time to submit Lucy we
all held our breathe until the results came back. Lucy got in!! Lucy is now in the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival!! It feels like a dream and the festival revolves around networking, selling your film, and making deals. It's an opportunity of a life time and we want to be there to represent Lucy ourselves! Although we need all the help we can get! Cannes starts May 15th and goes until May 26th. The Serbian film festival, BOSIFEST, that Lucy is in as well lands on June 5th-7th, and Lucy also made it into the Short Film Competition at the New York City International Film Festival in Times Square on June 13th-20th. This has miraculously turned into a film festival trip of a lifetime for Lucy and could change everything!!
I need your help to raise as much as I can to not only go to Cannes but to make it to Serbia and New York as well! As you can imagine that will take a lot! I not only need donations for the trip but for printing press materials to promote Lucy to it's fullest extent so I can make as much as I can out of this once in a lifetime opportunity! I ask you to please donate to Lucy's cause and to help me make my dreams come true. For all of you that know me, you know how passionate I am about what I do and have worked tirelessly since my freshman year of high school to obtain it. Even $5 will help tremendously and I know we are all victims of hard times, so even if you can't, I ask that you spread the word and tell everyone you know about Lucy's good news!!
